National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP):
  • Only 41% of 4th graders and 34% of 8th graders scored at or above the Proficient level in mathematics 
  • At the 12th grade level, a mere 24% of students reached or exceeded the Proficient level.​
Program for International Student Assessment (PISA):
  • U.S. students scored an average of 478 in mathematics, significantly below the Organization for
         Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) average of 489, placing the U.S. 37th out of 79 countries.
​​Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS):
  • U.S. 4th graders scored an average of 535, while 8th graders scored 515, both above the TIMSS scale average
          of 500 but indicating room for improvement to stay competitive globally.
ACT and SAT Results:
  • The 2022 average ACT math score was 19.8, and the average SAT math score was 520 out of 800, reflecting
          a downward trend in student performance.
